Imagine this… You’re dreaming of a giant, glorious bar of chocolate, but when you unwrap it, you find a teeny tiny one instead. Classic case of life’s little surprises, right? This mini chocolate moment perfectly captures the gap between our grand expectations and the often modest reality we face.
Sometimes though, life hands us exactly what we want, but soon after, our minds start dreaming of something even better. While we can chuckle when it’s about chocolates, the stakes are much higher when it’s about things like relationships, health & money.
I’ve been there several times, so, after diving into 27 self-help books, chatting with life coaches, and even taking a short course in Psychology at Oxford (yes, seriously), I’ve come up with a fun and quirky method I like to call The Chocolate Method of Happiness.
And nope, it doesn’t involve stuffing your face with Toblerone—though that does sound tempting!
Step 1: Spot the Smaller Toblerones
Next time life feels a bit "meh," ask yourself: Is this a “big Toblerone” problem? Maybe you were expecting a huge win but ended up with a mini version. Shift gears and start spotting all the smaller Toblerones life has given you.
Trust me, there ARE things you can be grateful for. For example, you’ve come across this article (just kidding!). On a serious note, do look around you, I am sure there’s a lot to be thankful for! Keep a mental list of these “mini Toblerones” and watch how this simple trick can switch you from feeling “meh” to “hey, not bad!”

Step 2: Embrace the Toblerone Shape of Life
The Toblerone is famous for its unique triangular shape, right? This shape perfectly represents life’s ups and downs. Just like Toblerone, life is a series of peaks and valleys. The trick? Enjoy each piece of the experience, just like you would savour each piece of Toblerone.
If things aren’t looking great right now, remember: this too shall pass. And when things are going awesome, soak it all in and collect those small joys, or “mini Toblerones,” to keep you going when the times get tough.

Step 3: Appreciate the Hidden Structure
Here’s where it gets really interesting. Although the Toblerone is famous for its triangular pieces, most people don’t notice that it has a structure with a solid base that holds all the pieces together. Think of this structure as representing the deeper experience beneath your emotions.
By the way, here’s a little secret: Happiness is overrated! It’s just one of many emotions. If you look beyond the surface and connect with the core experience, life starts to look a whole lot different.
And when you do, you’ll start to see the bear! What?? Check out the Toblerone logo—did you see the bear hidden in the logo? If not, Google it!
It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best opportunities are hidden in plain sight. So, take a step back from the rollercoaster of emotions and tune into the broader experience.
You don’t need to become a monk or meditate all day—just recognize that there’s always a bigger Toblerone out there.
Life is a beautiful, ever-changing experience, and sometimes we need a nudge to remember that.
